adventures of a Shatush SPECIALIST

Hailing from Florence, Domenico Casella is global ambassador at Neville London and is renowned for his ‘hybrid hair’ technique

What has been your career journey so far?

I have worked in the industry for almost 15 years as a stylist and session stylist. I’m so lucky to have worked alongside some of the biggest names in the fashion industry and travel the world, tending to the tresses of my international clients in places such as Athens, Saint Tropez and Saudi Arabia.

What inspires you?

My clients. At Neville’s, our mission is to sense what clients want and what works best for them, then mix it with our creativity and provide them with the best services and products. I’m also fortunate to be part of the Neville artistic team. Being surrounded by creative people enhances your own creativity and pushes your boundaries.

You’re known for specialising in ‘hybrid hair’ also known as Shatush, what do you love most about this technique?

Shatush is a freehand technique which gives a sun-kissed finish. It’s an effortless, low maintenance colour as it’s graduated close to the roots and then lightens around the face, lengths and ends. I like to combine the technique with henna, used as a toner or a treatment. It closes the cuticle of the hair, adds an extra glow and hydrates hair. It also hides grey hair by giving the hair a warm tone without regrowth.

Describe your role as global colour ambassador for Philip Martin's?

I share my vision of colour and meet different hairdressers from all over the world. It’s allowed me to introduce Henna 2.0 to the salon, a new way to tone and treat hair.

What are the challenges you’ve faced so far?

To keep client’s loyalty. It’s the most precious thing for me, and it’s a long-term challenge. I never take them for granted.

What’s next for Domenico Casella?

After a short summer break, I’m ready to face a bright, new season, full of fresh techniques, collaborations and creative partnerships.
