CANDICE MCKAY releases new collection
Sonder is the name of the new collection launched by award-winning South African stylist, Candice McKay.
Shot by photographer Jack Eames, Sonder is described by Candice McKay as: “The realisation that each passer-by has a life as complex as one's own, with their own thoughts, feelings and experiences. In other words, it's the feeling of being acutely aware of the individuality and uniqueness of the people around us.”
As Sonder features raw, fresh and feminine hair that's both minimalistic and natural, McKay believes these six, easy-toreplicate looks make it the perfect choice for even the busiest salon day.
According to McKay, Sonder is not just a hair collection – it’s a celebration of life itself. She continues: “As we journey through this world, it's all too easy to become lost in our own lives and forget that every person we meet has their own unique story, experiences and emotions. Sonder invites us to embrace the beauty of our differences, recognising that every individual is living their own life, full of experiences and challenges, just like our own. It's a poetic reminder that, just as the natural world is diverse and inclusive, so too must we embody this same sense of inclusiveness and diversity in our interactions with one another.”
The Sonder collection draws inspiration from various cultural trends and philosophies, including the nostalgia of the 1990s, the allure of futurism, the raw beauty of nature, and the African philosophy of Ubuntu.
The collection's styling is a luxurious and sophisticated take on 1990s rave culture, with minimalist silhouettes, transparent man-made materials paired with organic fabrics like silk, satin, and linen. The makeup is minimal, with clean, fresh skin and a healthy glow, while the hair is styled to accentuate the natural texture and movement.
