Great looks TO BEAT THE winter woes
We asked the consultants at Ruutos Hair to earmark the top protective styles for Afro hair during the cold months.
Kinky twists
The kinky twist is a great way to protect your hair any time of the year. You can wear them for as long as four weeks. It’s important to wash your head every two weeks if you have hair. The Ruutos Montego braids are used to make them.
The term protective hairstyle is generally used with reference to Afro-textured hair and can be described as a hairstyle that keeps the hair tucked away with minimum manipulation from the weather.
As its name suggests, the point of wearing protective hairstyles is to help keep your hair healthy by limiting its exposure to any damage caused by the sun, the heat, the cold, etc.
Chunky Flat twists with two strands
These hairstyles look good in any season and are a good choice for people with dry, flaky, sensitive, dandruff-prone, or itchy scalps.
If this describes you, then you should wash your hair every two weeks after taking down your style.
Cornrows with extensions
This style is also great for any time of year. Since it is made with three strands, it tends to last longer than the flat twist because it is more sturdy. However, people with thick hair or sensitive scalps should not try this look.
Afro with Full Crochet
Also a hairstyle that works in any season. A crochet needle is used to attach Afro hair extensions to your cornrows in other to achieve this look.
U-part wig
Another style that works in any season, the U-part wig is one that has hair extensions sewn onto a wig cap in the shape of a U. This wig is made with a u-part at the top, so you can blend your own natural hair through the u-shaped hole.
This wig can be taken off before bedtime so that your hair can breathe. Your natural hair can be flat-twisted or cornrowed on the bottom.
You can also wash your hair once a week or once every two weeks with this style.
Pro tip
Before styling any of these looks, the hair was clarified with the Ruutos clarifying shampoo, washed with our nourishing / revitalizing shampoo, deep-conditioned with the restorative /reconstruct mask, moisturized with the moisture / revitalizing trio, and flat twisted / conrowed with our braiding gel.
For maintenance, we suugest you spray the hair with Curl Refresher, which is full of moisture, and then use a mixture of Loc Butter and Hair Elixir every other or third day.
